Following an alert reported to our association and relayed to the AFEPS, we organized a mission in October 2022 in which Jean RUFFEZ and Jean-Eric BLATTEAU participated for the AFEPS and Louis REBBOH for Plongeurs du Monde.
This initial mission highlighted numerous diving accidents involving fishermen who sometimes find themselves in remote villages, with the added difficulty of accessing oxygen. It can sometimes take several hours to reach the Coquimbo chamber and the new hyperbaric service, which was established just a year ago.
During his visit to the University of the Sea in Coquimbo, Louis Rebboh discovered the existence of a university diving club with around fifteen student divers who wanted to develop skills as “guides in the country's nature reserves.” Carlos Gaymer, the head of this university program, explained that the government had created numerous nature reserves, but that there was no trained personnel to protect them.
It is with this goal of training university students in mind that we are launching our program in Chile.
