A life-changing encounter
It was in 2015, during the Salon de la Plongée diving show, that Eddie crossed paths with Plongeurs du Monde. Impressed by the concept, he decided to become an Open Water Scuba Instructor, determined to join the adventure. With his OWSI and MF2 certifications in hand, he reapplied to the PDM team in January 2019. A few weeks later, Jérôme contacted him: they were heading to the island of Mohéli in the Comoros, with Jérôme as mission leader, Daniel Lancien and Didier Pivin to train the marine park rangers in PADI Rescue. It was his first playground far from the beaten track.
We are completing the training of local young people to Divemaster level: in June a number of them successfully completed this training, including the first female Divemaster on the island of Mafia. We have also trained other local people and Tanzanian marine park employees to Advanced Open Water Diver level.
We leave again in March 2024. Our local actions take several directions: training Tanzanian marine park employees, helping the community to train divers to become diving professionals or active members of marine protection associations and, of course, raising awareness and sharing with the children of the village of Utende.
