Philippines - Leyte

Training local divemasters to work in the bay's centers.
Training maritime guards to monitor and protect the coastline.

Plongeurs du Monde was contacted by officials from the Philippine Ministry of Tourism during a diving trade show in Paris. During our discussions, they asked us if it would be possible for us to intervene on the island of Leyte - which suffered from typhoon Yolanda in 2014 - in order to train young locals there.

At the end of our missions on Apo Island, we succeeded in building the project in the presence of Conny JEPPSON, Regional Manager PADI Asia Pacific and Rita DOCTOR, representative of the Ministry of Tourism.

In addition, Phil McGUIRE - representative of an association of dive centers in Padre Burgos - told us that they were looking for local Divemasters to employ.

The aim of this mission on Leyte is therefore twofold:

  • Training maritime guards to monitor and protect the coastline.
  • Training local divemasters to work in the bay's dive centers, guiding divers in complete safety and respect for the environment.
